SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits

SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
The venerable BEST Sixty crawler was manufactured between 1919 and 1925 in San Leandro California by the C.L. Best Tractor Company. BEST would eventually merge with the Holt Caterpillar Co. in 1926 to create the Caterpillar Co. as we know today. The BEST Sixty would continue being manufactured until 1932 as the Caterpillar Sixty. The Sixty is the quintessential logging tractor and is a model I have always wanted to manufacture. I never imagined a technology would emerge that allows me to create a crawler with such incredibly accurate fine detail yet so easy to assemble and weather. There's no tedious and complicated tread assembly required. Available with or without the canopy. The body includes only six incredibly detailed 3D Printed parts. Featuring a complete pair of tread assemblies for ease of construction! A separate tow hitch is included so you can adjust the height as needed. The canopy includes two 3D Printed supports, styrene, and corrugated aluminum. A link to the online instructions are included.

Farmall Regular Tractor Kit

Manufactured by McCormick-Deering at their Rock Island, Illinois plant

Over 134,600 "Regulars" were built between its introduction in 1923 and discontinuance (in favor of an updated model) in 1932. I thought this was a great year to bring this to you as it celebrates its 100th Anniversary. It was the first mass-produced row crop tractor. With its higher ground clearance and standardized features, she was an instant success and helped further the mechanization of America at a crucial time in our history. I am so blown away with this model, what a beast! I believe its design bridges the earlier steam powered tractors and combustion engine tractors. Utilizing the latest generation of 3D printers, the quality of the parts are just amazing. I cannot wait to get these parts in your hands!

SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits

Fordson Model "F" Tractor Kit

Manufactured by Henry Ford & Son 1917 - 1928

The Fordson Model “F” was unquestionably the most popular tractor manufactured during the early Twentieth Century. Over 755,000 were assembled at Ford plants in Dearborn, Michigan and Cork, Ireland. Henry Ford started an independent company for building his tractors since Ford Motor Company shareholders had no interest in tractor production. He named his new company “Henry Ford & Son” - thus the “Fordson” was born! This versatile little tractor was popular in agriculture, light industry, mining, and logging. This one is a no brainer. A very durable product that was common to find in use well into the 1950’s all over the world.

With just 10 pieces, this is a fast and easy kit to assemble, paint, and weather. Note the angled treads on the rear wheels! Accurate prototypical detailing with left and right wheels. John Deere Model "D" Tractor Kit

Manufactured by Deere & Company, Waterloo, Iowa 1923 - 1953

Is there a more iconic symbol of early American engineering and manufacturing prowess than this Deere? Production began in 1923 at the Deere Waterloo Iowa production facility where over 55,500 were eventually manufactured. This model kit is suitable for early 1920 modelers all the way up to 1960’s. The versatile “D” was able to operate on gasoline, kerosene, or tractor fuel. This was a large tractor, and has the honor of being the longest production run of any John Deere in its day. Probably the most fun to paint of the four, I simply loved breaking out the green and yellow paint, what an amazing combination! I find little doubt that these colors were inspired by the green and yellow of all that Iowa corn being harvested but there is a bit of controversy among the tractor historians, whatever…

Farmall Model "C" Tractor Kit

Manufactured by International Harvester, Rock Island, Illinois 1948 - 1954

The Farmall C was produced during the 1940’s and 1950’s although weathered correctly, she looks appropriate anytime after 1935 or so. Design on the Farmall dates back to the mid-1930's, but production was delayed for over ten years due to WWII. Farmall was a part of International Harvester and the "C" originally sold for $1500. This was a very popular tractor and just under 80,000 were manufactured. It was the predecessor to the “Super C” which was even more popular. I just love the overall feel of this classic, especially the iconic front wheel assembly. A quick internet search will show how versatile this tractor was as it was widely used in agriculture, mining, and the lumber industry.

Ford Motor Co. Model "600" Tractor Kit

Manufactured by the Ford Motor Company Highland Park, Michigan 1954 - 1957

The Ford 600 Series tractors began production in 1954, and continued until 1957. Although many of these tractors were made, they are very collectible due to their smaller size and favorable design. Many are still in use today on small and large farms alike due to their power and functionality. I love this tractor as it exemplifies the design aesthetic of the 1950’s. The resurgence of the Art Deco movement is front and center in the clean and rounded lines of the hood design. This tractor looks like a race car when compared to the older John Deere and Fordson designs! This little beauty was manufactured in Highland Park Michigan and originally sold for $2056. This tractor is the ultimate example of a versatile design and was a very popular model in its day. The Ford 600 is the most modern of my tractor releases, I had to include it in the line-up!

Ford Model TT Flat Bed Truck Kit

Manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from 1917 to 1928

The Model T debuted in 1908 and was the earliest effort to make a car that most people could actually afford. It became so popular at one point that a majority of Americans owned one, directly helping rural Americans become more connected with the rest of the country. The Model TT was based upon the Model T but had a longer wheelbase and heavier frame/rear axle making it the perfect light duty truck. The truck debuted in 1917 selling for $600.00. Ford only sold the engine and the chassis leaving it up to the buyer to either custom complete the truck cab and body themselves or pay a coach builder to finish it for them. My kit is based upon a homebuilt model that was recently photographed out there "in the wild”. By the mid 1920’s Ford offered a factory built cab. By 1928, over 1.3 million Ford Model TTs had been sold, wow!

SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
With just 16 pieces, including a single piece chasis and cab, this is a fast and easy kit to assemble and weather. I have always wanted to produce a truck kit with the hood open and motor exposed! Simple and very effective storytelling. Look how prototypically thin the hood has been printed as well as the vents. Folks, those vents are actual vents. The open hood and motor is a single piece as well, such incredible detail. No hassle assembly. Included is a solid body hood in case you don’t want to model the open hood version. This kit includes laser cut window acetate and stripwood to complete the bed. As with all of my 3D Printed parts, damaged pieces will be replaced at no charge. A shipping and small packaging fee will be assessed to cover costs. The details pictured in the bed are not included, available separately. Photographic props are not included. The photographs illustrate an assembled, painted, and weathered model. Assembly, painting, and weathering is required. A link to online instructions is provided with each kit. 24 Inch "Eureka" Engine Lathe 3D Printed Kit

Manufactured by Rahn-Mayer & Carpenter of Cincinnati Ohio

Almost 40 years ago Charles H. Brommer introduced his now legendary white metal Machine Shop kits with a series of understated black and white ads in the Gazette. How could his mastery of meticulous research, creating brass patterns that are unrivaled to this day, or his amazing hand casting work be improved upon? Enter 3D Printed parts! Each 3D Printed part is an almost exact replica of those incredible brass masters. Each Machine is faithfully reproduced as Charlie intended them to be. The prototype was manufactured in the early 1900's and many can be found today in museums and private collections. An online search reveals a wealth of photographs and information that will aide in your modeling of the beautiful piece. They’re so easy to assemble and for the first time ever, available in HO Scale as well as the original O Scale. These machines are a joy to work with and are incredibly versatile. Over the coming months, I will be making the entire set available including the beautiful vertical boiler and single cylinder mill engine, a machine shop detailing set, and an overhead belt drive kit.

Blacksmith Shop 3D Printed Detail Set

The first in a series of carefully researched and accurate themed sets
Available in two different versions as outlined below
SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
I'm not sure there is anything more iconic in our early "modern" history than the blacksmith. From agriculture to manufacturing, the county blacksmith (and by extension his equipment) was almost single-handedly responsible for the rapid expansion of civilization. I guess it is no suprise then that many a fellow modeler has been inspired to create this scene.
The SierraWest 3D Printed Blacksmith Shop Set is available in two different versions. Both are identical except for the different sized Forge and Bellows as pictured below.
SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits

SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
Included in each 3D Printed themed set is the following:
Forge and Bellows with support Frame and Hood (choose your size), the Anvil, 18 Assorted Blacksmith Tools, 12 Assorted Blacksmith Tongs, 18 Horseshoes (these are superb!), the Pot Belly Stove, Quenching Barrel, Quenching Drum on side with Stand, 2 Swage Blocks (every responsible Blacksmith owned more than one!), 5 Gallon Bucket, Hand-Crank Wheel Grinder, Wooden Tub, Three Wagon Wheels in disrepair, Large Tin Coal Bin and Shovel, and a Leather Slag Bucket. Also included is stripwood and brass chain as required, brass wire, and styrene tubing. NOT included: The coal pictured in the forge, the stump the anvil sits upon (a twig from my backyard).
Let's talk a bit about creating the actual scene. There are thousands of pictures online to reasearch and develop an accurate plan of how to set your equiment up, easy. Fill the quenching barrel with 5 minute epoxy that has a few drops of any "oily" water based paint and add plain epoxy to the quenching drum on stand. Add a little coal to the forge. You can add lighting to create a flickering effect since the forge is hollow and the grate is an actual grate, cool! Cut a small twig to create the anvil base and remove most of the bark. Use the supplied brass wire to bend, then blacken, and add the tool and tong holders as pictured. Be sure to hang the horesehoes on the walls. As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Old Style "Wooden" Disconnected Log Trucks

SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
SierraWest Scale Models 3DP Kits
A classic logging disconnect that will be at home on any logging layout. Very easy to weather and construct. Be sure to view the accompanying assembly video. (click on the "university" link at the top of this page) Each kit includes the parts needed to construct two cars. They include the appropriate gauged trucks as per your selection. These are sold as static models. They may be converted to operational if you replace the 3D Printed wheelsets. Wouldn't a string of these empties be the ultimate anchor to a scene placed on a neglected, overgrown siding next to your sawmill? Now that's some serious vintage backwoods logging! The O Scale kits include hand poured resin frames and bunks, the HO version include all 3D Printed frames and bunks. Comprehensive instructions are provided online to download and print as desired. The 3D Printed parts paint and weather exactly like my traditional hand poured resin castings. Photographic props are not included.
